Emerging Dallas Hip-Hop Artist Jaylin “Jay Kid” Williams

If you haven’t yet heard of Jaylin “Jay Kid” Williams, now’s the time to pay attention.

There’s a new rapper on the Dallas scene. Except…he isn’t new. If you haven’t yet heard of Jaylin “Jay Kid” Williams, now’s the time to pay attention. Jaylin isn’t your typical rapper. At the tender age of fourteen, he began writing Christian rap lyrics and performing at churches across the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex, as well as clubs and even the Dallas House of Blues.

It wasn’t an easy road. Jaylin was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just twenty- three months old. After rushing him to Children’s Medical Center here in Dallas, his parents learned that his blood sugar levels were over one hundred times what is normal, and he was clinging to life by a thread.

Jaylin beat death. But his life has been overshadowed by diabetes, and he’s been determined not to let the disease define him or hinder his purpose. “I knew what my calling was before I graduated high school. So, my main objective during my senior year was to learn as much about audio engineering as possible,” says Jaylin.

Jaylin credits his Uncle Mica, who is an active pastor, as one of his biggest professional influences. Uncle Mica owned a production lab in Oklahoma City where Jaylin recorded a few of his Christian rap songs. “I was fascinated with the audio equipment he owned and how it was used,” Jaylin remembers. The rapper began teaching himself audio engineering and now produces his own music.

At 21 years old, Jaylin began to move away from Christian rap and experiment with hip-hop. He’d grown up on old school music and wanted to infuse the sounds of old school soul, rap, and R&B into his music. “Sampling is a crucial skill to master in order to be a well-rounded producer,” says Jaylin. “I like the idea of digging up old school songs and giving them new life.”

Now at 26 years old, Jaylin has found his niche in music. He’s got his own unique sound and style, though he says, “I’m not sure if I have what’s called a style. I just do me. I make my moves accordingly and give all the glory to God.”

The 26-year-old rapper is the founder of JayKid Productions Music Studio where he produces sounds for other artists all over the world. One of his latest clients hails all the way from Morocco. Self-taught and with twelve years in the game, the rapper/producer says that his experience and ability to deliver a quality product is what makes JayKid Production stand out above do-at-home production technology.

So where can you find Jaylin’s music? On September 17, Jaylin dropped his very first project called Take One: The EP, which can be found on all online music platforms- iTunes, Tidal, Spotify, Amazon, and Apple.
