Junk & IM'PERETIV head "Out West" on the Second Single from Together in Pieces V

Vancouver rapper Junk and award-winning Canadian producer IM'PERETIV continue their Together in Pieces V rollout with "Out West," the second single from their new five-track collaborative project.

"Out West" takes a sharper and more confrontational approach, using the idea of heading west as both a physical destination and a metaphor for stepping away from people, situations and values that no longer serve you. Junk opens the track by taking aim at greed, betrayal and the opportunistic nature of relationships, calling out the "snaky ways" of people hiding behind masks while questioning the money-driven culture that surrounds them.

The track then shifts its focus toward community. Rather than chasing status or material success, Junk speaks about building, coaching and contributing to the people around him, contrasting that mindset with those more concerned with jewellery and appearances. The repeated refrain of "Out West" becomes less about simply leaving and more about finding a place where people are willing to build something together.

But the record doesn't romanticize the West either. Junk addresses the harsher realities of life on the streets, touching on addiction, homelessness and the visible effects of the ongoing drug crisis. The contrast between community pride and social hardship gives "Out West" a grounded perspective, presenting the West as it actually exists rather than an idealized destination.

Produced by IM'PERETIV, the track pairs Junk's direct, uncompromising writing with a production that gives the verses room to breathe before allowing the hook to take over. The result is a record that balances confrontation, social commentary and regional identity while continuing the raw, independent spirit of the Together in Pieces series.

"Out West" is the second release from Together in Pieces V, with the five-track EP being released one single at a time every two weeks leading into the 555 Ontario Tour this September.

The next single, "Hantavirus" featuring Daniel Son, is set to drop Friday, August 28.

Together in Pieces V features five tracks produced entirely by IM'PERETIV, with executive production from Junk, IM'PERETIV, and Jamie Kuse. The project was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Jamie Kuse at Nova Studios.
