Leimert Park lyricist Universe, The King and legendary DJ battler DJ Hectik 1 teamed up for “The Kitchen Mix EP” which is an 18 minute project created to bring the traditional elements of westcoast hip-hop into the forefront for present day music. The project is accompanied by 9 visually creative music videos combined into one 18 minute “mix” with the track list giving timestamps to direct listeners to their favorite songs/videos.
Throughout the project, UTK displays his intricate lyricism and creativity over beats produced and scratched by DJ Hectik 1. The Kitchen Mix EP was also turned into a cartoon animated by UTK himself to go along with the animated theme of the artwork also drawn by UTK. The content you can look forward to hearing remains in the realm of positive hip-hop and is full of motivational messages and affirmations for all to enjoy/appreciate. The project offers high energy singles like “The Juice” & “Leimert Park Way” but also includes more melodic vibes like “Losing Control” & Thoughts Become Things”. These two living legends have definitely been in the kitchen cooking and the fire is HOT!
